Warframe will be the first game to get mouse and keyboard support on Xbox One.
The rumors were true. Xbox One is indeed getting mouse and keyboard support. Jason Ronald, Director of Program Management for Xbox Platform confirmed it today via a blog post on xbox.com.
But if you are thinking that you’ll finally get to play your favourite game with mouse and keyboard, hold your horses. The support for games will be on a title by title basis, entirely at the discretion of the game’s developer. Ronald wrote in his post:
“With this new input support at the platform level, developers can now build mouse and keyboard support in their games if and how they choose. It’s important to note that mouse and keyboard support for games is added on a title-by-title basis, entirely at developers’ discretion. For all other titles, nothing changes. Mouse and keyboard input is not enabled by default for games. Each development team knows their titles best and we support them in creating the right experience for their games as they see fit, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience. Warframe will be one of the first titles testing mouse and keyboard input when the feature arrives to Insider in the coming weeks.”
He also said that “most wired or wireless USB keyboards and mice will work on Xbox one”. Microsoft has partnered up with Razer to bring this project to life. The nature of the partnership with Razer, as of now, is unknown. But the blog did say to “tune into the November 10 edition of Inside Xbox for more details about additional titles supporting mouse and keyboard, and to learn more about our partnership with Razer.”
Ronald also revealed that they had been working with “studios of all sizes” to ensure a fun, fair and correctly balanced experience.
