Its the start of a new month, and as always its jolly time for Xbox Live Gold members. The membership not only gives its members access to online multiplayer and some exclusive discounts, every month Xbox Live Gold members can look forward to a few free game downloads for Xbox One and Xbox 360. And the latest free games for the month of July are available to claim and add to your library.
For the month of July, Gold members will receive four new free games -two for each system. But you can play both the Xbox 360 titles on your Xbox One, thanks to the backward compatibility feature. You will need an active Xbox Live Gold membership to keep playing the Xbox One games, but the Xbox 360 titles are yours to keep after you redeem them once. It doesn’t matter if you’re still an Xbox Live Gold member or not.
July’s first two games – Inside (Xbox One) and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Xbox 360, Xbox One) are available for download now. The next two games – Big Crown: Showdown (Xbox One) and Meet the Robinsons (Xbox 360, Xbox One) will be available from July 16.
You can read about the free games below:
Inside (Xbox One): Available July 1 – July 31
Inside, launched in mid-2016, is Playdead’s spiritual successor to its 2010 game Limbo. It picked up a ton of awards in 2016 and 2017, many of them for art, design and independent game categories. This game is familiar, strange, affecting and gruesome, all at the same time. Much like its predecessor, Inside is a deceptively simple platformer where you control a small boy in a big, very dangerous world. Though some parts are challenging (and difficult to watch), the biggest appeal of Inside is the uncommonly intricate way it explores its themes with ambiance and suggestion rather than straightforward dialogue. To say much more would be to spoil its biggest surprises, so just play it already!
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Xbox 360, Xbox One): Available July 1- July 15
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is regarded as a cult classic and might be the biggest Castlevania game to date. Even though it initially launched in 1997, the gameplay mechanics hold up even to this date. The game that forever changed the fate of the Castlevania series (and roughly half of all indie platformers) is now yours to play for free. The Xbox 360 port is one of the better ones out there. The game continues the stories of the series and introduces a surprising protagonist this time around. The Xbox 360 version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is also playable on Xbox One. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t stop playing before things go topsy turvy.
Big Crown: Showdown (Xbox One): Available July 16 – August 15
Big Crown: Showdown was first launched for Nintendo Switch back in January. It’s a four-player action game with one-button combat. The game pits you and your friends against each other across three wacky medieval worlds and 15 insane courses. The faux-isometric camera scrolls along with the level automatically, and anyone who can’t keep up as they dodge around obstacles and course hazards is taken out. So is anybody who gets slammed off the course and into oblivion by somebody they thought was their friend. Just be careful you don’t slam yourself right off the course instead. Big Crown: Showdown is available to play only on Xbox One.
Meet the Robinsons (Xbox 360, Xbox One): Available July 16 – July 31
Meet the Robinsons was quite a popular film that premiered in 2007. And this is the movie tie-in game. The plot revolves around a family’s whacky time-travel exploits. You’ll play as Wilbur Robinson, who’s in the midst of some time travel chaos that requires him to track down a villain called the Bowler Hat Guy. The action-adventure game includes 40 missions and six different environments in which Wilbur must solve puzzles and battle enemies while armed with various scientific gadgets. You can play Meet the Robinsons on both Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Be sure to claim all four of these games because all of them are great experiences. Among the mentioned games, we highly recommend you to try Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Inside without fail. Both of them are incredible games that still hold up even to this day.
