In a livestream event on May 9, Ubisoft announced it’s much awaited Ghost Recon title, named Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
It is the 11th installment in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise and is a narrative sequel to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Here’s a look the game’s announce trailer –
Release
The game will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 4, 2019. It is already up for Pre-Order and anyone who buys it now will get guaranteed access to the game’s Beta as well as the Sentinel Corp. Pack at launch, which will reward you with three in-game exclusive items: the Valor assault rifle, the Sentinel Mk. 2 Assault set, and the Hammer Mk. 2 digital vehicle. Speaking of Beta access, even if you don’t plan to pre-purchase the game, you might still stand a chance to play the game’s Beta by registering on Ubisoft’s official website or via the Uplay Store.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint is available in three Editions – Standard, Gold, Ultimate, as well as a Collector’s Edition. According to Ubisoft, here’s what’s included in each Edition –
That’s right. Purchasing the Gold and Ultimate Edition will give you three-day early access to the game, i.e, the game will be playable from October 1, 2019. They will also get one week early access to three new character classes, which will be released throughout the year. Player’s who purchase the Collector’s Edition will have access to everything included in the Ultimate Edition along with an exclusive steelbook, a soundtrack with a selection of music from the game, a confidential file with three lithographs, a Cole D. Walker figurine (24 cm. high), Walker’s Dog Tag, and a waterproof map of Auroa.
As for the game’s PC release, Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be available on Epic Games Store and Uplay Store, similar to The Division 2, with no current plans for a Steam release. It will require constant internet connection and would not be available for offline play.
Two DLC chapters, Deep State and Transcendence, are set to be launched soon after the game’s full release. Ubisoft has stated that they would be releasing expansion episodes to the game every four months along with other content such as Raids.
Setting
The incidents of Ghost Recon Breakpoint takes place in the year 2023 on an island named Auroa. Set four years after Ghost Recon Wildlands, the game follows the story of Nomad, a member of the 5th Special Forces Group, Delta Company, First Battalion, also known as “Ghosts”. Auroa, an island in the South Pacific, is owned by billionaire entrepreneur Jace Skell, the owner of robotics company Skell Technology. The Ghosts are deployed to Auroa to investigate a political violence and discover that the island has been taken over by Cole D. Walker, a former Ghost who went rogue, and his team of soldiers who call themselves “Wolves”, armed with cutting-edge weapons and drone equipments manufactured by Skell Technology. Cole D. Walker was first introduced in Ghost Recon Wildlands’ DLC named Operation Oracle.
Hunted by the Wolves, the Ghosts must do whatever it takes to survive while trying to retake control over Aurora. The Wolves have the same training and experience as the Ghosts, therefore, the Ghosts must improvise their tactics to overcome any challenge they face while keeping in mind that it’s them who are the preys this time.
Gameplay
Just like Wildlands, Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a tactical shooter set in an open world environment. The game is played from a third-person perspective with an optional first-person view for aiming weapons.
Auroa has variety of environmental features such as rocky terrains, snowy mountains, forests, swamps, and even a volcano. The players can make use of their environment to their advantage, for example, proning in a muddy area will allow the players to camouflage themselves by covering themselves with mud, similar to Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The island can be navigated by foot as well as by various land, air, and sea vehicles, just like the game’s predecessor.
What approach the player will take in order to complete a mission is totally up to them. They can go in guns blazing as well as utilize stealth and silently take down enemies without raising any alarms. Melee combat has been overhauled with a variety of new melee combat animations. Corpses of enemies can be carried and hidden away to avoid any suspicion by patrols. Players are equipped with a torch that will allow them to cut through fences, a feature new to Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Players need to collect different resources in the game’s world in order to use them to craft necessary equipments such as bandages, which are required when the player is seriously injured. Injured teammates can be carried to safety in order to revive them safely. Another new feature added to the game is the ability to set up bivouac shelters, which can be used to treat injuries, customize the squad’s loadout, and advance the time of day.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint features character classes, with only four classes available at launch and more to follow gradually. Each class has their own abilities and advantages, and the player has the option to switch between classes at bivouac shelters. The customized character remains the same across all the game modes: Solo, Cooperative, and Player vs. Player.
Let’s take a look at Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s gameplay –
Ghost Recon Breakpoint looks promising as the footage released by Ubisoft gives us an idea of what’s going to happen in the game and how the players need to put their skills to a test as it is up to them to keep the Ghosts alive. The game’s story will focus on the Ghosts constantly trying to make their way through the Wolves, and the mental and physical exhaustion that comes with it. With plenty of new features along with returning mechanics of Wildlands, we are expecting Ghost Recon Breakpoint to deliver us with good gameplay, an appealing story, and praise-worthy co-op and multiplayer.
