THE INTERNATIONAL 2018 TEAM INTRODUCTIONS – NEWBEE

Newbee is a Chinese Esports Organization which used to compete in League of Legends and Hearthstone, but now only competes in Dota 2. They are one of the only teams that has come close to claiming the Aegis of Champions twice. They won TI4 and last year and in TI7 they came second place, losing to Liquid in the Grand Finals.

Newbee’s current roster:

Newbee’s roster has been together for the longest duration compared to the other teams. Since Sccc, Faith and Moogy joined Newbee on September 17^th 2016, the only change that Newbee has gone through was letting go of their coach Hao and bringing back SanSheng to replace him.

Newbee started out the season really strong but they underperformed heavily in most of the recent DPC tournaments. They placed 9-12^th in most of the tournaments but they won the Perfect World Masters Minor in November 2017, and the ESL One Genting Minor in January 2018, qualifying them for a direct invite to TI8.

About the Squad:

Moogy, previously known as uuu9 has been in the scene since 2013 but he did not get any limelight before he joined team TongFu and carried his team to victory at ESCC 2015. He proved himself to be a tier 1 carry player and got picked up by Newbee in September, 2016.

Newbee’s mid player, Sccc is relatively new to the scene but he gained a lot of popularity in a very short span of time because of his plays on heroes like Invoker and Queen of Pain. He was originally a part of Newbee Young. During his stay in Newbee Young, he became the second player to reach 9000 MMR alongside Kaka. He was later promoted to the main roster of Newbee due to his outstanding performances.

Kpii is an Australian player and he played in many Oceanic teams before he joined MVP Phoenix in 2015. With MVP Phoenix he qualified for TI5 through the SEA qualifiers and became the first Australian player to attend a TI. He immediately gained a lot of attention as a versatile player. He was originally a carry player but when he joined Newbee in 2016, he shifted to the offlane role.

Kaka was originally a pub-star and he was the first Chinese player to reach 9k MMR. He joined HyperGloryTeam in 2014 and won WVW National Electronic Sports Classic tournament in April 2014, beating many tier 1 teams like Vici Gaming and LGD.  He later joined EHOME in 2016. In this period, most of the Chinese teams were underperforming the International tournaments which led to a major reshuffle. During this reshuffle, Kaka landed in Newbee as the captain and drafter. With his captaincy, Newbee became a powerhouse in mid-2016, going on a 29-0 winning streak until they were defeated by OG in EPICENTER.

Legendary Chinese Player and Newbee’s Captain Faith:

Faith, one of the most Veteran Chinese players, played in many teams before he joined Newbee along with Sccc and Moogy. He played in teams like LGD, IG and TongFu. He attended every TI except TI6 and he also won TI2 when he was in IG. When he joined Newbee, he replaced Kaka as the captain and he is now on his path to winning a second TI. He was stripped of this chance last year when Newbee barely lost to Liquid at TI7 as I mentioned before.

The Hungriest team at TI8:

Newbee has always been known as one of the strongest Chinese teams. Their roster has been together for a very long time now and they have amazing chemistry. They are also the hungriest team that wants to win TI8 as they came incredibly close last time. We saw how disappointed they were after losing to Liquid last year in the TI7 true sight documentary. It would be an incredible story if they win TI8 and it will be a valuable lesson for many players that sticking together might be better than finding a better team.
