The Razer Game Store was launched back in April 2018 with unique reward systems like vouchers, zSilver Credits, and exclusive discounts on Razer products.
In less than a year of its opening, Razer is now closing their digital game store down. They’ll still be running game promotions through Razer Gold, but the store itself has now been closed “as part of realignment plans”.
What happens to the games that you purchased? They’ll still be considered valid and work on the platform you’re using for any games purchased on the Razer Game Store. Razer will also fulfill any pre-ordered games and provide support for any purchases. Read the full FAQ here if you have any more questions.
Other companies like Epic Games and Discord have also been trying to compete with Steam, the largest digital game distributor in the PC Gaming industry, with their own stores. Steam still remains to be the king because of how long it’s been around and how matured it’s gotten over the years, offering many features like achievements, community hubs, forums, guides, and several others which just are not either present or work well in the competing digital game stores. Still, these competing stores are offering bigger cuts to developers which is very appealing.
Do you think Steam will be dethroned or face any serious competition from these companies in the future? Let us know down in the comments.
