There were a lot of incredible showcases at the Xbox E3 2019 briefing, and it saddens me to make a list of only 15 games. Most of the games that were displayed look absolutely stunning, and Xbox Studios clearly set a standard with this conference.
All of the 15 games listed here are so good, that it is close to impossible to rank them. Hence, I have just listed the games here without any specific order. Let’s get started!
Games at the Xbox E3 2019 briefing
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was amongst the biggest showcases at the Xbox E3 2019 briefing. I dare say, it was one of the best game showcases of all time. Why? Well keep reading to be amazed.
The game has Keanu Reeves in it. Yep, Keanu Reeves, ever heard of the guy? Neo from The Matrix series? John Wick? Seriously, if you haven’t heard of this guy, you should go hear about him.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming RPG game, set to release on 16 April 2020 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is being developed and published by CD Projekt.
Gears 5
Gears 5 is an upcoming third-person shooter video game being developed by The Coalition, which is a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios, based in Vancouver, Canada.
The game focuses on Kait Diaz played by Laura Bailey. Kait is an Outsider of Locust descent, and the player must uncover the origins of the Locust and Kait’s family.
The game will also feature a competitive game mode named “Arcade”, and another game mode named “The Horde”. In July, a multiplayer tech test will be held, in which anyone can participate to play the “Arcade” mode. The other game mode, “The Horde” will be available to play at Gamescom 2019 in August. The game will be fully released on September 10th, 2019.
That’s not all though. The game also includes a co-op mode called “Escape” in which you can play with 2 other squad members.
You can get an exclusive character pack named ‘Terminator Dark Fate’ through the Xbox Game Pass or by pre-ordering the game. Haven’t heard of the Xbox Game Pass yet? Check out this article for more information.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition
Yep, this happened, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition finally got a release date. And there’s more. The game will be playable in 4k resolution, the audio has been fully remastered and best of all – it includes a brand-new campaign called ‘The Last Khans’.
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot
Bandai Namco stepped in from nowhere and dropped an incredible trailer of the upcoming Dragon Ball game. From the looks of the trailer, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be covering Goku and his friends’ fight against Nappa, Vegeta and Frieza. I am seriously hoping that they also include the Android saga, The Cell saga and The Majin Buu saga. The genre of this game is Action Role Playing.
Halo Infinite
If you take out Keanu Reeves from the picture, Halo Infinite was probably the biggest and the best showcase at the Xbox E3 2019 briefing. We got to see a nice and long trailer and I don’t want to spoil anything, so have a look for yourself.
Halo Infinite is being developed by 343 industries, and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is a first person shooter game and “The story will mark the beginning of a new chapter and challenge for the Chief.” Apparently, It will also have a “much more human” story than its predecessor, Halo 5: Guardians.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
We’re getting a Star Wars single-player action-adventure game in November this year. How incredible is that? The trailer is also quite cool.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is being developed by Respawn Entertainment, and published by EA.
Phantasy Star Online 2
The Phantasy Star series is a very popular game in Japan, and it has also influenced a lot of other games since its inception.
Sega is bringing Phantasy Star Online 2 to North America in the Spring of 2020, and hopefully it will also be released worldwide after its success in North America.
Minecraft Dungeons
I was very surprised by this one because of the endless possibilities it has. A Minecraft dungeon crawling game sounds like such an incredible and innovative idea.
Minecraft Dungeons is being developed by Mojang games, and is listed as a action/adventure role-playing game. I am just hoping that it has hack and slash, dungeon crawling elements in it, similar to what we see in games like Diablo and Path of Exile.
Bleeding Edge
There’s an ongoing trend of games using the concept of unique character scaling, implemented in competitive game modes. I believe that this trend started with Dota, and later re-introduced with games like Apex Legends.
Bleeding Edge was shown as a 4v4 game, where all characters use Melee weapons. It is somewhat similar to Dota, which is a 5v5 ARTS game. I wonder whether the objective will be to kill all 4 of the enemies before they do, or something bigger than that. Either way, the trailer looks pretty dope.
Wastelands 3
We got a trailer for the sequel to Wastelands 2. Wastelands 2 was a post-apocalyptic role-playing video game, and it consisted of a lot of gritty, dark elements.
Wastelands 3 however, seems like a humorous game even though it is set in the same post-apocalyptic world. Its an RPG game developed by inXile Entertainment, set to release in the first quarter of 2020.
Blair Witch
This one of the more surprising trailers that we got to see at the Xbox E3 2019 briefing. Blair Witch is first-person survival horror game, and judging from the trailer, it seems extremely dark and sinister. We don’t get to see too many games like this, and I am a big fan of the survival horror genre. The game developed and published by Bloober Team.
12 minutes
Next is a game from Annapurna Interactive who have been making a lot of highly rated, yet overlooked games. This game however, seems like it will definitely bring the developers into the limelight.
12 minutes is a game about a man stuck inside a time-loop. We’ve seen this concept used in many movies like Groundhog Day, but it has never been properly implemented in a game before. The trailer is suspenseful, thrilling and a little scary, and it makes me really excited, curious as to how the game would play out.
Borderlands 3
Yep, a new instalment in the Borderlands series is coming out this September. How incredible is that? We’re just a few months away.
The game is set of sometime after the events from Tales from the Borderlands. Just like its predecessor, it’s a loot-driven first-person shooter.
There’s more! An all new DLC for Borderlands 2, Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary is available for free right now! It sets up the stage for Borderlands 3.
Also, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is available on the Xbox Game Pass now. It is a compilation of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, including all additional content released for the games, remastered in 1080p.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring is an upcoming open-world RPG game, being developed by FromSoftware, who are famous for their Dark Souls series. But wait, there’s more! The author of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, George RR Martin himself is collaborating with FromSoftware to build the world of Elden Ring.
Not much is known about the game yet, but the trailer looks incredible.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
The last game in the list but definitely not the least, Ori and the Will of the Wisps got an incredible looking showcase at E3. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and it made me feel like I want to buy the game immediately.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps is a action-adventure side-scroller. It is being developed by Moon Studios, and published by Microsoft Xbox Game Studios for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One. This game is the successor to Ori and the Blind Forest.
