Rockstar Games released one of 2018’s top and most awaited games, Red Dead Redemption 2 in late October, with the latest addition of an online mode, currently in beta testing coupled with the already legendery single-player campaign mode. Sadly, Rockstar only made the Playstation 4 and Xbox One editions of the superhit game. Thus, a lot of PC gamers couldn’t play the game, or atleast missed the feeling of playing it on PC.
Though Rockstar Games yet has no statement on whether a PC port can be expected or not, committed PC gamers are twitching for the port. While PS4 Pro and Xbox One provide a 4K, high-spec experience, there is nothing quite like the finer details a killer PC rig brings to the game and know the full extent of Rockstar’s game engine, along with all the things both consoles do.
If you don’t own either of the consoles, what are your chances of owning RDR 2?
Through sources, we have had several pointers all giving the idea of a PC release, figuring out a rumored release date and all the other information we could get our hands on.
Can we expect RDR 2 on PC?
Rumors originated in mid-October, when a Swedish website of MediaMarkt (the German multinational chain of stores that is the largest European retailer of consumer electronics and second largest in the world after Best Buy), made a listing of RDR 2 PC available, with 31st December 2019 as a placeholder date, but was eventually removed.
But rumors gained popularity when the LinkedIn Profile of a Rockstar employee listed credits on the PC version of the game as a programmer, later it got amended.
The strongest of all the clues was when Rockstar released a companion app for RDR 2 on mobile phones/tablets, which would basically act as a hub for viewing journal entries, in-game stats and the map.
Inside the Companion app are the most concrete clues pointing to a PC version of the game, including the following parameters inside the app itself:
PARAM_FrameLimit – A framelimiter.
PARAM_DX11Use8BitTargets – Probably due to Xbox One.
Given the current status, Rockstar Games won’t make any announcement by the end of 2018. Though they could keep the hype up for RDR 2 by making the announcement by January. Keeping in mind the huge scale of Red Dead 2, it will probably take several months to be ported to PC. Even GTA IV and GTA V took 6 months for making the jump to PC. If the sources are right, April/May could be the expected months around when RDR 2 might release on PC.
What would be exciting is if Rockstar waits long enough to release the PC version, it would be going up against Cyberpunk 2077. Though both games are very different, both are highly anticipated, and it would reduce the initial sales, as not everyone would be able to get their hands on both the games.
