After 8 years we finally got a sequel for Red Dead Redemption and even before its launch, everyone expected it to be one of the highest selling games of 2018. But the numbers created by the launch Red Dead Redemption 2 is far beyond what anyone would have anticipated.
Red Dead Redemption 2 sold $725 million worth of copies just 3 days after its release. This is the second most profitable entertainment product launch in history, only behind Rockstar’s own Grand Theft Auto 5 which generated $1 billion worth of copies in the first 3 days. But GTA 5 was released on a Tuesday, hence Rockstar is using the line “biggest opening weekend” in their promotions for Red Dead Redemption 2.
After Black Ops 4 sold out $500 million of copies in the first 3 days, very few would have expected any other game to go higher than that in 2018. Red Dead Redemption 2 not only broke that record, but considering the amount of positive reviews the game is getting, its only a matter of time that many other records will also be broken. Previously I was a little skeptical about this, but looking at these launch numbers, Red Dead Redemption 2 might even get into the list of best-selling video games of all time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the highest rated PlayStation 4 and Xbox One game on Metacritic along with Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V, and according to Metacritic, the game received universal acclaim from critics. Many critics are applauding the game for its incredible story line, the depth of its open world environment, and how the game heavily focuses on player choice for the storyline and missions.
