US’s first esports scholarship program, called ‘path-to-pro’, was unveiled earlier this week. This program is available for Apex Legends at the Becker College in Massachusetts. For this scholarship program, the college has partnered up with Team Genji, an esports organization and analytics platform, and Helix Esports, the tournament venue.
The applicants that qualify the application procedure shall get $5,000 from Becker College.
Who can and how to apply for the Apex Legends scholarship?
The procedure of the selection of scholarship candidates shall begin on March 15th. The current high school juniors and seniors can apply for it. You will have to register on Team Genji’s registration website to apply for the scholarship program.
The applicants who qualify will proceed to compete in the Helix Esports Apex Combine Tournament in April. This tournament will be hosted at the Helix Esports gaming center in northern New Jersey.
Team Genji’s talent analytics platform and the staff at Becker College will scout the competitors for this tournament. The finalists will be considered for the scholarship program.
The tournament is expected to be crowded since it is the biggest Apex Legends tournament in North America ever since it’s release in February.
An applicant’s eligibility is preserved until they are of age. So Team Genji and Becker College still encourage the current high school juniors and seniors to register.
Why you should consider this?
Becker’s esports general manager Timothy Loew stated that,
Our goal is to give top Apex Legends players a unique chance to combine their talents with an education. As home to the first varsity esports program in Massachusetts and the first bachelor in esports management degree in the U.S., Becker is excited to shape the future of competitive gaming in partnership with two of esports’ leading brands: Genji and Helix.
The Princeton Review rated Becker’s game design program as the third best in the world. Being one of the first colleges to offer an esports management bachelor’s program, it is a good opportunity for gamers.
Team Genji CEO William Collis further shed some light on their expectations with it,
Building a pipeline from high school to college, and then hopefully to a pro team like Genji is what we’re all about. This is just the beginning. We’ve proven the power of analytics by using big data to build the world’s number one Hearthstone team. And we’re excited to bring our platform into Apex Legends with the help of Helix and Becker.
The Varsity Apex Team is scheduled to launch by this Fall. The applicants the get admitted into the program will definitely be given a shot at the tryouts for the team.
