According to the reports, Global eSports is currently working with Blizzard to bring Overwatch World Cup in India. The only downside might be that the player would have to bear all the expenses. This is because Blizzard will only be funding the top 10 teams and India doesn’t fall under that category, since this will be the first time India goes to any esports world cup. Thankfully, Global eSports has decided to help this situation and bare the expenses of a player. However, this is not the first time GE are helping the Overwatch scene in India. In 2018, they helped with the XP Overwatch Cup in which over 31 teams participated.
How the Process Works
Three representatives are to be selected in a voting phase- Community Manager, Coach and General Manager. A team selection committee is supposed to be formed and National Tryouts will be held across the country.
Upon the completion of the team, Global eSports will host roadshows to promote Overwatch and Team India both.
GE will then provide a boot camp to the final selected players in Mumbai along with all the gaming rigs, peripherals and gear they need.
Global eSports also plans to take the selected players to the Korean Boot Camp for a few weeks/months and practice against some of the best players in the world [Regular scrims with Contenders / OWL teams] GE will then fly down and pay for accommodation of the players for the Overwatch World Cup in November at Anaheim, California.
This is a huge deal, not just for the Indian Overwatch fans, but also for the entire gaming community of the country. Although GE has helped immensely in this task, the fans can do their part too. Global eSports asks everyone with a Blizzard account to vote so they could get the most out of this.
