The MarsTV dota 2 league 2016 was the first tournament that was held after the Roster shuffle. So, in a way this was the first platform to showcase the new rosters and test it out against other rosters. From the title, you must have already realized that today we will be talking about the new EG roster’s MDL victory.
LGD gaming, which had won the DPL decided not to participate in order to give some rest to the players and they sent in their sister team, LGD forever young. And the 3rd place VG was invited to the league since the first place LGD forfeit the tournament.
EG and Newbee showed dominant performances in group stages. Especially the new Newbee squad with players who were relatively new to the scene and probably not that famous, but sccc and uuu9 played exceptionally well for Newbee as they beat secret and MVP.Ph to occupy the top spot in the group. EG also topped their group by beating VG and OG.
Newbee continued its dream run in upper bracket, relentlessly sending teams to lower bracket. They beat OG and EG and were the first finalist of the league. OG also performed admirably in the series. Ana showcased some exceptional talent and together with S4, he wrecked havoc.
However, the best team in MDL was definitely EG. Sumail and Arteezey were amazing throughout the tournament. There were hardly any games where both of them were shut down early and the game would go south from there. Sumail, who had a fantastic TI continued his run in MDL as well. But it was the support duo of Zai and Crit that stole the spotlight. These two players were playing perfectly in sync with each other and with the team. This is the first lan title for EG under Crit’s leadership.
Here is the highlights of the finals between EG and Newbee.
EG is already looking pretty strong. However, only a limited number of teams actually participated in the event and the teams that participated might have had less time to practice too, so its too early to be judging team. So we might have to wait for the Boston Major where the actual test of the rosters will happen.
