The new Death Stranding trailer seems to tease a boss fight with a mysterious Man in the Golden Mask.
Hideo Kojima is probably the most innovative and one of the best video game designers of our times. His knack for the bizarre and absurd could be clearly seen in Metal Gear series, and more recently they can be seen in the trailers of Death Stranding.
Death Stranding has been baffling audience since the first reveal trailer at E3 2016. Since then, 5 trailers, including a gameplay trailer have been released and no one still has any idea what the game is all about. This has caused a lot of people to dig deeper, some even scrutinizing the game’s soundtrack and the band which made the soundtrack itself. Even the original video of the song has not been left alone. The newest trailer of the game just further confuses us.
The trailer was shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2018. It shows Norman Reedus’ character carrying a person on his back, where they are intercepted by a Mysterious Man in the Golden Mask. He seems to be able to control the black oily liquid, which we have seen in all the trailers previously, with his mask. The liquid turns into a giant monster, which it turns out is quite hungry. The Monster has the golden mask for a face. This could very well be a teaser for boss fights in the game. The question remains though – will we have to fight the boss or merely run away and survive?
Well, this is the genius of Hideo Kojima. We can’t even be sure if we will get straight answers even after the game is released and we’ve completed it. The man sure knows how to hype things up.
