LOL vs HotS: In this article, we will be comparing two very popular MOBA games of all time. Both the games are considered very addictive, but they are also considered very rewarding by certain audiences. However, LoL and HotS both offer a different variety of truly enjoyable experiences, and in this article, we will be comparing these 2 games.
League of Legends

League of Legends was inspired from the original Warcraft 3 mod – Dota. A few programmers who were working on Dota decided to leave that project in IceFrog’s hands and moved over to Riot Games to develop League of Legends.
League of Legends is beginner friendly MOBA game. The skill curve is not so steep, and even new players can enjoy the game after playing just a few matches.
LoL was released before HotS. Hence, League of Legends acquired a massive fanbase, before HotS could even begin the race. However, Hots was still quite popular and gave a good competition to League of Legends after its release.
Gameplay-wise, League removed many of the complicated gameplay elements from the original Dota, and made an interesting and welcoming game of a trending genre.
Heroes of the Storm

Heroes of the Storm is simply put, Blizzard’s take on Dota and the MOBA genre. After Valve took in IceFrog and created Dota 2, it is believed that Blizzard noticed their success and wanted to make their own MOBA.
The game features heroes from Blizzard’s franchises including Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, The Lost Vikings, and Overwatch. Characters like Skeleton King which Valve had to replace due to copyright issues, can be found as playable characters in Heroes of the Storm.
Gameplay-wise, Heroes of the Storm adds a lot of fresh new elements into the MOBA genre which was later applied into other MOBA games. However, since HotS joined the MOBA games race very late, it was heavily overwhelmed by the other giant MOBAs in the scene like Dota, LoL and Smite.
Conclusion
LoL vs HotS: Both League of Legends and HotS are incredible games. I think you should give them both a try. However, personally I would recommend you to play LoL over HotS.
Another important thing to note is that Blizzard decided to shut-down their HotS Esports tournaments – Heroes Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm. Hence the Esports scene of HotS is almost non-existent right now. However, the devs promised to keep the game fresh by bringing new updates.
