League of Legends, also known as LOL, is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games. League of Legends was heavily inspired from Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne mod, Defense of the Ancients, as a few developers that worked on LoL were originally handling the Warcraft III mod, DotA. In League of Legends, players control a “champion” with unique abilities and battle against a team of other players. The goal is to destroy the opposing team’s “Nexus” before they destroy yours. However, LoL has other game-modes as well. The game consists of three game modes currently: Summoner’s Rift, Twisted Treeline, and Howling Abyss. League of Legends has an incredibly huge competitive scene. In North America and Europe, Riot Games hosts the League Championship Series (LCS), located in Los Angeles and the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), located in Berlin, respectively, each of which consists of 10 professional teams. League of Legends is also extremely popular in South Korea(LCK) and China (LPL). These regional competitions culminate with the annual World Championship.
The League of Legends World Championship is an annual event which celebrates the competitive scene of LoL. It is hosted every year by Riot Games. Teams of the highest calibre, compete for the champion title, the 70 pounds (32 kg) Summoner’s Cup, and a US$1 million championship prize. Here’s a LoL wallpaper in 4k.League of Legends has also spawned a new game-mode called Teamfight Tactics, which is based on a Dota 2 mod called Dota Auto Chess. In this game-mode, each player has their own battlefield consisting of hexagons, which players may take turns to strategically place champions onto a game board. After champions are placed, a short battle automatically commences, the following outcomes – the number of champions killed – determining the health and gold of each player.
