We’ve heard numerous rumors and speculations spread all over the internet in the past few months regarding Nintendo’s plans to release a new, smaller and a lower-priced version of the Nintendo Switch sometime this year. And it looks like a new more portable Nintendo Switch Mini is on the way.
It all started when a Twitter user @cptn_alex who also has a YouTube channel focused on Nintendo activity, claims to have received an email from a Chinese manufacturer called Honson, which makes accessories for game consoles – including, apparently, the “Switch Mini”. The email says that Honson “will release Switch mini accessories” soon. Alex then took a screenshot of the email and shared it on his Twitter asking his followers, “Would a company make products for a console they didn’t KNOW existed, and didn’t have in hand?”
Was the Switch Mini just unofficially announced to me?
A gaming company in China just wrote to me letting me know they’re releasing accessories for the Nintendo Switch Mini.

To visit the company’s website, click here.
And if you visit the website, you’ll actually find a variety of accessories listed for the so-called Nintendo Switch Mini including a tempered glass screen protector, a clear protective case as well as several other cases. But all these items appear to be “out of stock” for now.
Many times gadget designs tend to get leaked before the official announcements because cases and accessories like these show up on the internet before the actual launch of the device. This is because accessory manufacturers need the exact measurements before the release of the product to manufacture cases and accessories in time for the device’s launch. This could be the case with the Nintendo Switch Mini as well.
The website also includes a few pictures of what the system will look like. The design shows that the Switch mini does not have detachable joy-con controllers. The device will also have a D-pad instead of the four separate directional buttons that are present on the current Nintendo Switch model. It also appears that we won’t be able to dock the device as the joy-cons are not detachable.
When contacted by NintendoLife, Honson replied that they based the Nintendo Switch Mini images on classified information that they have received from Nintendo. Honson also claimed that it will be “slightly smaller” than the current model. Honson added that they are now waiting for confirmation from Nintendo to start the production of the accessories for Nintendo Switch Mini.
The Wall Street Journal claims that there are actually not just one but two new Nintendo Switch consoles in production. One is a revamped version of the current Switch that is going to look very much the same as the current model but with some internal upgrades, while the other is lighter, cheaper and a more portable version (Nintendo Switch Mini).
We at eSportsPortal will surely let you know as we hear more about this.
