Day 2 of the Main Event of The Kuala Lumpur Major featured two Lower Bracket matches and finished with the Upper Bracket finals of Team Secret vs Virtus.pro.
Evil Geniuses vs PSG.LGD
The first series of the day was EG vs PSG.LGD. There was a lot of hype for this one as it was a essentially rematch of the Semi Finals of TI8 where LGD eliminated EG from the tournament. Game 1 was a breeze for EG. They won all their lanes and later Sumail’s Mirana was making a lot of space for Arteezy’s Terrorblade to get farmed up. Normally, Arteezy always gets farm on Terrorblade even when the game is going really bad for them and in this one, there wasn’t any pressure on him at all and he farmed like a beast ending up with a GPM of 788. After TB got 6 slotted, EG went for the racks and closed the game by 32 minutes.
Game 2 was much more of a challenge for EG. They lost the laning phase and Maybe on his Tiny was going ham with the help of Empower from Chalice’s Magnus. EG managed to find some good skirmishes in the mid-game which put them back into the game and allowed Arteezy on the Spectre to get some farm. In the late-game, LGD made a lot of questionable plays and Cr1t made some incredible moves, stealing the Aegis twice in a row from LGD on his Weaver. Spectre got a lot of farm out of these engagements and Cr1t finished up an Aghanim’s Scepter. This completely nullified Tiny’s mass nuke damage and EG won the game after a big teamfight victory, eliminating LGD from the Kuala Lumpur Major.
Evil Genisues vs Ninjas in Pyjamas
The next match was EG vs NiP. This was another revenge match for EG as NiP knocked them down into the lower bracket, earlier in the tournament. In Game 1, NiP won the laning phase and transitioned well into the mid-game. Ace played out of his mind on Morphling, farming rapidly and at the same time participating in all the right teamfights. EG put on a really good defense and held the game for a long time. The game dragged on till an hour and NiP finally managed to close out the game.
In Game 2, NiP was running a Drow strat. The laning phase went evenly but in the mid-game, NiP grouped up and starting taking objectives. They also got some good skirmishes and managed to take EG’s top lane of racks. At this point, NiP had a 10k gold lead and Dota Plus was showing a 90% win probability for NiP. EG managed to come back into the game on the back of Arteezy’s Terrorblade. NiP forced a really questionable teamfight, diving the tier 3 tower and giving away all the gold advantage they had. Soon after, Arteezy got 6 slotted and mowed down all the 3 lanes of racks from NiP in quick succession, finishing the game by 56 minutes.
In Game 3, NiP again went for a Drow lineup even though they had just lost with it and they also did not respect ban Arteezy’s Terrorblade. This time NiP lost the laning phase and Arteezy got a lot of time to free farm. He participated in all the right teamfights and once he got 6 slotted, he went straight for the buildings and finished the game. EG got their revenge and eliminated NiP from the Kuala Lumpur Major.
Team Secret vs Virtus.pro
The final series of the day was the Upper bracket finals – Team Secret vs VP. Team Secret was looking very fierce, having won all of their games in the tournament. Game 1 was really quick. VP first picked Io and they did not manage to do anything with that hero in the entire game because Secret picked a lot of counters. They picked up Witch Doctor and Earthshaker and apart from that, all 5 heroes on the side of Secret had reliable lockdown. Nisha surprisingly won his lane with Morphling against No[o]ne’s Lina and managed to shut her down. MidOne was also having a good game on his Monkey King. Secret got the Aegis at 24 minutes and went for VP’s bottom lane of racks. They took down the racks and later got two good teamfights after which VP called the GG.
Second game was a reverse of Game 1. Secret picked up OD for MidOne and Pangolier for Zai, both of which did nothing in the game. No[o]ne on Pugna had a good laning phase against OD and Ramzes on Morphling also won his lane. After grouping up together, VP won a lot of skirmishes and also took down a lot of objectives. By 24 min, VP was already going for tier 3 and Secret was not able to defend. Secret got team wiped and called GG.
Third game was rather close. It was a showdown of Ramzes’ TB and Nisha’s Arc Warden. Both the heroes got 6 slotted by the end and it was incredible to see the teamfights. In the later part of the game, Secret was on a lead as MidOne’s Ember Spirit was also getting a lot of farm. Secret started winning teamfight after teamfight and amassed a gold lead of 20k by 47 minutes. Ramzes and No[o]ne on TB and Invoker tried really hard to hold the game but Nisha’s Arc Warden was just way too strong. VP got team wiped twice in a row and had to call out the GG as Secret went for the Throne. VP got knocked down to the Lower Bracket and will face EG tomorrow.
Tomorrow is the final day of the Major. EG, VP and Team Secret are the only teams that remain and we shall see who comes out on top. Watch the games live on PGL’s Twitch stream. Here’s a schedule for tomorrow’s matches.
