One of the most irritating errors you could come across while playing any online game is “Failed to join the session”. In case of Monster Hunter: World, this error is often followed by the infamous error code “5038f-MW1”. To make matters worse this problem existed across all the platforms.
The reason behind this error ? Well, there are 2 main reasons:
1. Excessive Server Load
2. Incompatibility between Router and Console
Solution for PC (steam) users:
Disabling the steam overlay and tweaking few other settings fixes the problem in most cases. Now let me guide you through this procedure:
➢ Open steam and look for ‘Monster Hunter: World’ in library. Right click on it and click on ‘Properties’ option.
➢ Once the properties window pops up, click on ‘SET LAUNCH OPTIONS’ under the ‘GENERAL’ tab.
➢ Now type “-nofriendsui -udp -nofriendsui -tcp” and click the ok button. Now launch the game and you should be good to go
Solution for Console users:
For consoles we need to create a static IP and place it in the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) of the router. Here’s how you fix the error code 5038f-MW1:
1. Locating IP address and MAC address
➢ For PS4 Users:
➔ On the main menu select Settings>Network>View Connection Status.
➔ Note down the IP address and the MAC address, LAN or WiFi depending on your usage.
➢ For Xbox Users:
➔ While on home screen push the menu button and navigate to Settings>Network>Advanced settings.
➔ In advanced settings look for IP settings section and note down the IP address and the MAC address, LAN or WiFi depending on your usage. 2. Adding consoles IP to router
➢ Open browser and enter the Default Gateway Number(IP address of your router). Enter your login credentials. You can find the default credentials on a sticker at the back of the router or in the router’s documentations.
➢ This will open your routers home page and give access to multiple settings. Here you must locate the ‘Manual Assignment Option’ and enable it.
➢ Now locate the window which allows you to add MAC address and IP address manually. Generally it should be found right below this option. Enter the data recorded from your console and click on add. 3. Adding console IP to DMZ
➢ Now locate the DMZ option in the settings tab of your routers homepage.
➢ Here you select the DMZ option, enable it and add the static IP address you assigned to your console.
➢ Save your settings, restart your console & router and continue gaming!
