Fortnite Pro AM was the first ever Fortnite tournament hosted by Epic Games. 50 celebrities and 50 gamers were invited to this tournament and were divided into 50 duos to compete in one epic match of Fortnite. The prize-pool of this tournament was $3 Million but all the winnings go towards charities chosen by the winning teams. The tournament was hosted in Los Angeles at the Banc of California Stadium.nt.
Even though the tournament was very light-hearted and enjoyable for the players, the $3 Million prize pool made the game very competitive for the top tier players that were invited to the tournament. Three matches were played, out of which the first two were warm-up games. The first match was a solo game and the rest were duos. The third game was the money game where most of the players took the game very seriously.
Stand-out Performances:
Even though there were a lot of top-tier players in this tournament, only a few of them really stood out in this tournament.
NoahJ456 played really well in the first game. He ended up winning the game and had a total of 6 kills in the end. He was dominating throughout the game and had really good positioning.
Solary’s Kinstar put up an amazing show of skill in the first and second games. In the first game, he came in second place, barely losing to NoahJ456 and in the second game he had 10 kills and he took down Ninja in a final 1v1 fight after Ninja managed to kill his duo partner Sean O’Malley.
Optic’s CourageJD was standing in for Summit1G as the latter couldn’t make it to the tournament. He was dominating in the third game for most of the match and ended up getting the most kills in that game at 7 kills.
Kittyplays along with her duo partner Chandler Riggs ended up getting third place in the money game and won $250,000 for their charity. Chandler ended up dying rather early and Kitty was on her own for the majority of the match. Kudos to her as she managed to hold her own and survive against the top tier players of the game.
After his disappointing performance at the Ninja Vegas ’18, Myth ended up putting out another disappointing performance at the Pro AM. Him and his duo partner Paul George never placed in the top 5 out of all the three games and in the third game he once again managed to die to fall damage when he clashed with Ninja and Marshmello.
When talking about stand-out performances, it is impossible to not talk about Ninja in this tournament. In the first warm-up game he ended up losing pretty fast after having a build battle against Gotaga but in the second and third game he played very smart and strategic. He ended up getting second and first place respectively in the games without even getting into too many fights. It was very interesting to see Ninja’s playstyle in this tournament. Him and his duo partner Marshmello managed to get to the center of the circle and take a superior height advantage twice in a row. They barely got into any fights at all until the very end when all the players started getting to the center of the final zones. As mentioned before, in the second game Kinstar’s duo managed to win by going up against Ninja’s base using a rocket launcher. In the final game, Ninja and Marshmello won the game handily against CourageJD’s duo, grabbing $1 Million for their charity.
Here’s a list of winners from the event:
In conclusion, the tournament was really fun and entertaining but had a few flaws. The spectator feature which was used for the very first time, felt like it needed a lot of work as many of the major fights in the tournament were not showcased properly. Also, the tournament was hosted outdoors in the hot sun which seemed like a bad idea as many of the players were getting really sweaty. Other than this, it was an incredible event and it was really fun watching the gamers and celebrities work together for the dubs.
