PUBG is one of the hottest games right now. Brendan “PLAYERUNKNOWN” Greene, director and lead designer of PUBG first created a battle royale styled mod for DayZ back in 2013 and called it DayZ: Battle Royale. It was a huge hit and later on, he created his own battle royale game – PLAYERUNKNOWN’S Battlegrounds. PUBG was released back in March 2017 as an early access game on Steam and since then it has come a long way, also proving itself in the eSports scene with the recent PUBG Global Invitational 2018. But the game has its problems. Yes, there have been significant improvements since the early access version but many problems are still prevalent. Literally today, I wanted to play PUBG but the game kept crashing on the main menu – seems like PUBG has issues with the new Windows 10 1803 Build update. So, PUBG Corp has decided to step up its game and introduced a new campaign – Fix PUBG. The campaign seems very promising and it’s great to see PUBG Corp admitting the issues PUBG has and taking measures to fix them. Let’s have a look.
What FIX PUBG really is
Basically, the PUBG developers agree that the major bugs, performance problems and issues the game has right now are limiting it’s potential and people want it fixed, so they’re going to do everything they can about it. FIX PUBG is a campaign lasting till October in the duration of which the developers will focus a lot on the issues PUBG has and fix them. During these 3 months, they promise to fix all the major problems the game has with all the resources they have at hand.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that they won’t be fixing anything after the campaign is over. The FIX PUBG campaign is to use all their resource to emphasize on the major issues the game presently has and fix them. They have a roadmap which shows the different types of problems they will focus on during the three months, with the problems ranging from anti-cheat, server performance, client performance, matchmaking, bug fixes and more.
There’s also a FIX LOG Section which shows the fixes they’ve done and are planning.
Changes have already started!
They’ve already patched the game once with several fixes to PUBG. Here are the changes –
Limb penetration will be implemented (if a player model’s hands or limbs are blocking a more vital area, bullets will now deal full damage for that area).
Graphics “sharpening” will be added as a separate toggle in the settings.
You’ll be able to mute individual teammates while in-game.
Quality-of-life improvements are coming to colourblind mode.
Quality-of-life improvements are also coming to loot stack splitting (more control).
Vehicle sounds will be reduced when driving in first-person perspective.
You’ll be able to adjust your FPS cap (including by setting it to “uncapped”). [*]You’ll also be able to set your in-game FPS cap and lobby FPS cap separately.
PUBG is a great game, there’s no denying that. People compare it to Fortnite but I personally enjoy both of these games and believe they both feature fun and very different gameplay compared to each other. The FIX PUBG Campaign is an amazing move by PUBG Corp and it seems very promising. The game really needed this and judging by the direction PUBG Corp is taking, I can confidently say that PUBG has a bright future ahead. You can track the progress of the Fix PUBG campaign in the Fix Log section present at the campaign’s website – fix.pubg.com.
At the end of this campaign, the developers promise that ‘PUBG will be a better, more stable and fairer game’. We’ll have to wait and see if they deliver on these promises. The things which we, the players can do right now? Support the developers, talk about the issues you’re facing in the community forums, send diagnostic logs if the game crashes for you and just be patient. Big and good changes are coming. What do you think about the FIX PUBG Campaign? Let’s discuss in the comments.
