ESL One Katowice will be back again in February 2019. Last year, ESL hosted Poland’s first ever Dota 2 Major tournament and it was a huge success with over 10 million views on Twitch and around 169K live spectators. People travelled from all over Europe to watch the games. Sixteen teams battled through for a total prizepool of $1,000,000. Virtus.pro won the tournament defeating Vici Gaming with a convincing 3-1.
This year, ESL One Katowice will again be hosted in the Spodek Arena, but the prizepool is lower than last time, at $300,000 prize. There will be 12 participating teams. 8 teams will receive direct invites and there will be 4 regional qualifiers, in Europe, China, North America and Southeast Asia. The group stage is set to take place from February 19-21, followed by the main event in the Spodek Arena from February 22-24.
The tournament will also feature a cosplay contest. “The cosplay scene has been a part of our Events from the very beginning! Every year we see talented and passionate artists showing their newest creations in front of thousands of Dota 2 fans at our Events in Europe! We can’t wait to welcome cosplayers from different countries for in Katowice!” – From the ESL One page.
Tickets are already available for purchase on the ESL One official website, along with more information on the event.
Along with ESL One Katowice 2019, the Legends Stage of the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2019 CS:GO Major, and the esports-centric IEM Expo is also going to be hosted in the nearby International Congress Center in the same week. The main event of the Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2019 starts on 28th February and ends on 3rd March.
