DreamHack, one of the biggest gaming fests, is expanding into Mobile Esports by launching the DreamHack Mobile Series. We were at DreamHack Mumbai 2018 where they did have PUBG Mobile Tournaments, so it’s not the first time they’re holding esports tournaments for mobile games.
Given the exponential rise in the popularity of competitive mobile gaming, it does make sense to expand into this sector. Even The Asian Games 2018 had Clash Royale as an Olympic demonstration sport, so there’s surely a ton of potential in mobile esports.
They’ll be premiering the DreamHack Mobile Series at DreamHack Dallas, being held from May 31 to June 2, 2019, with two games – Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. The collective prize pool will be $20,000 per event, and the final prize distribution will be revealed later.
“At DreamHack we’ve always been optimistic towards mobile esports, but we have also been cautious to get involved. We now believe the time is right to really jump in head first, and we believe that the DreamHack Mobile Series will bring the right mix of a professional esports experience alongside open competition that fits the ideal structure for mobile esports.”
– Michael Van Driel, Chief Product Officer at DreamHack AB
Brawl Stars is an incredibly fast-paced action game where players, known as Brawlers, team up to fight against each other in 3v3 battles. There are multiple unique game modes and 20+ brawlers to choose from. The game was developed by Supercell and is available on iOS & Android.
The DreamHack Mobile Series Brawl Stars tournament being held at Dallas this year will have a total of eight teams (3 players each), where half of the teams will qualify at the event itself and the other half will be selected through online qualifiers. The prize pool is set at $15,000 per event.
Clash Royale is a real-time strategy based game, which interestingly combines multiplayer battle arena, collectible card, and tower defense games in which players have the objective of destroying the maximum amount of towers of the opposing opponent. Players can play in either 1v1 or 2v2. This game was also developed by Supercell and is available on iOS & Android.
