Dota 2 vs HotS: In this article, we will be comparing two very popular MOBA games of all time. Both the games are considered very addictive, but they are also considered very rewarding by certain audiences. However, Dota and HotS both offer a different variety of truly enjoyable experiences, and in this article, we will be comparing these 2 games.
Dota 2

Dota is known for bringing popularity to the MOBA genre. It was the first game that got global attention for being a very competitive online game at the time of its inception.
After Valve took in IceFrog and created Dota 2, the popularity of ‘Dota’ as a concept drastically increased. Valve hosted a million-dollar tournament titled “The International” which brought in the best teams from around the world to compete for against each other in a LAN. This was the biggest tournament at the time, and brought in a lot of attention to the game.
About the gameplay however, Dota is a very competitive and punishing game. Specially for the new-comers. It is a very complex game and has a very steep learning curve. However, the game is very rewarding after you play for a certain amount of time, and get to understand the game.
Heroes of the Storm

Heroes of the Storm is simply put, Blizzard’s take on Dota and the MOBA genre. After Valve took in IceFrog and created Dota 2, it is believed that Blizzard noticed their success and wanted to make their own MOBA.
The game features heroes from Blizzard’s franchises including Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft, The Lost Vikings, and Overwatch. Characters like Skeleton King which Valve had to replace due to copyright issues, can be found as playable characters in Heroes of the Storm.
Gameplay-wise, Heroes of the Storm adds a lot of fresh new elements into the MOBA genre which was later applied into other MOBA games. The talents system in Dota 2 was inspired by HotS for example. However, since HotS joined the MOBA games race very late, it was heavily overwhelmed by the other giant MOBAs in the scene like Dota, LoL and Smite.
Conclusion
Dota 2 vs HotS: Both Dota 2 and Smite are incredible games. I think you should give them both a try. However, personally I am a huge Dota fan, and I think hardcore gamers would like Dota better than HotS.
Another important thing to note is that Blizzard decided to shut-down their HotS Esports tournaments – Heroes Global Championship and Heroes of the Dorm. Hence the Esports scene of HotS is almost non-existent right now. However, the devs promised to keep the game fresh by bringing new updates.
