Dota as a concept has been around for over 15 years now. The initial versions of DotA came out during 2003. After its release, DotA started becoming so popular that it slowly started overtaking Warcraft III, which was the base-game to which DotA was a custom map.
Valve refers to Dota 2 as an ARTS – Action Real Time Strategy game, while most people recognize it as a MOBA – Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. Dota 2’s Ranked All Pick mode is the most popular game-mode. It’s a team-based game where communication and skill are key. Dota 2’s matchmaking system puts you into a game with players at a similar skill level as you. Although Valve got a lot of criticism about its matchmaking system, Valve has eventually developed the system to be much better than it initially was.
Dota 2 is a 5v5 game, where your team is trying to destroy the enemy’s main structure in their base called ‘The Ancient’. At the same time, you are trying to defend your own Ancient against the enemies, which is where the name Dota comes from – Defense of the Ancients.There are over 100 heroes to play from, all of which are completely unique to themselves.
