BlizzCon 2018 started out with an opening ceremony and we got a lot of cool announcements about the future of Blizzard franchises. We got new WoW and Hearthstone expansions, new Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch characters, Warcraft 3: Reforged and more. And just as we anticipated, we also got some Diablo news in the end. Blizzard announced Diablo Immortal: A Mobile Massively Multiplayer Online Action RPG (MMOARPG). Yes, a mobile game. As expected, the audience at BlizzCon, openly displayed their displeasure.
Considering the fact that most of the hardcore Diablo fans are PC gamers, this kind of reaction is predictable. Although everyone knew that we were not going to hear anything about Diablo 4, fans were still expecting something like a remastered version of Diablo II or a new expansion for Diablo III. Getting a mobile game instead is definitely a let down.
The Diablo subreddit is filled with threads and angry comments about Diablo Immortal right now. The like to dislike ratio on the YouTube trailer for the game is baffling. Currently it has 8.3k likes and 254k dislikes.
For the people who are interested in the game, it will be available on Android, iPhone and iPad. The story is set between the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III.
Blizzard claims that the touchscreen experience will be so smooth that we will be able to play the same way as we do on a controller or keyboard & mouse. We all know that this is not possible but let’s hope for the best.
There will be 6 classes: Barbarian, Monk, Wizard, Crusader, Demon Hunter and Necromancer. Judging from the gameplay trailer, they seem to be exactly the same as the classes from Diablo III. Apparently, they chose to exclude the Witch Doctor class.
They also mentioned that many mobs and demons from Diablo II will be brought back for Diablo Immortal, along with many new ones.
