As we all know, every year Valve Corporation, the developer of Dota 2, hosts an annual Dota esports tournament known as The International where the best Dota 2 teams of the world compete against each other for the title of the champion. This annual Dota 2 tournament first started at Gamescom, Cologne, Germany in 2011 and has achieved worldwide fame over the years. The International 2018 was held in Vancouver, Canada and until last month, the only thing fans knew was that The International 2019 will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.
Dates have been confirmed for the tournament
Earlier this month, Vici Gaming leaked the dates for the event, the rumor being that the tournament will take place on August.
Valve Corporation, through Dota 2’s official Twitter account, confirmed two days ago that The International 2019 will take place from 20th – 25th August.
They stated – “The International 2019 will be taking place on August 20th through the 25th. We are still finalizing details that are required before tickets can go on sale, but we expect to be able to do that in a couple of weeks.”
The group stages for the tournaments are supposed to take place a week before the main event. As mentioned in the post, tickets for The International 2019 would be out for sale as soon the hosts are done finalizing the details of the event.
So far there has been no official announcement regarding this year’s Battle Pass but rumor has it that it would be made available almost the same time as that of the tickets.
A total of 18 teams would be participating in the tournament.
The following four teams have already qualified for The International 2019 –
Eight more would be selected for the tournament on the basis of how they perform at the Dota 2 Pro Circuit. The remaining six teams would be selected on the basis of their performance in the Regional Qualifiers.
Now that the dates for The International 2019 have been officially confirmed, I guess our plans for August have been sorted since the tournament would be live-streamed on Twitch and we would be able to watch our favorite teams compete against their opponents from the comfort of our homes.
