It’s 2019 and by now every gamer should be familiar with CD Projekt Red. Doesn’t ring a bell? Well, CD Projekt Red is the same video game developer that gave us the Witcher series. Their first game, The Witcher was launched in 2007 and over the past decade, the game evolved into a widely acclaimed franchise. CD Projekt Red have proved themselves to be experts in the field of making detailed RPG games with interactive open world design. While their Witcher franchise is set during the times of kings and monarchs, their upcoming title Cyberpunk 2077 will let you explore a fictional near-dystopian future.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on April 16, 2020 for Microsoft Windows, Google Stadia, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It’s being developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt. Cyberpunk 2077 have been in development for over nearly 7 years. It was first announced in 2012 with it’s very first teaser being released in 2013.
Setting
As you can pretty much figure out from the name itself, the game is set in the year 2077. The player explores the fictional Night City, located in California, as well as the city’s surrounding area known as the Badlands. As per the setting of the game, Night City is a crime ridden city infested by gang members, smugglers, and hackers. The city is run by big corporations who have complete control over the government, the armed forces, as well as the internet.
Roleplay
Here’s what’s so special about Cyberpunk 2077. The game gives you complete freedom as to how you finish your missions. By “complete”, I mean absolute control over your actions and it’s consequences in a mission. Unlike most other games, you won’t have to retry a mission if you fail to complete the given objectives. Rather, the game will continue regardless, taking into consideration the consequences of your actions.

Speaking of actions and consequences, Cyberpunk 2077 allow players to build up alliance or rivalry with other characters. For example, you may collaborate with a corporate executive and retrieve some item for them in exchange for certain favours, or alternatively, you can sell that item yourself in the black market for some extra cash at the risk of getting hunted down by the corporation. The game has several branching storylines all of which are driven by the players’ choices.
As for character customization, contrary to it’s initial announcement, the game does not feature any particular gender, nor does it have specific character classes. Players are instead required to choose from a variety of body types and voices, and can upgrade skills from a variety of categories that best suits their gameplay.
Combat
Cyberpunk 2077 let’s players engage in combat in whatever way they feel like. Cyber implants, weapons, and skills play a very vital role in combat. For example, a player may buff up their character to charge headfirst onto enemies or they can instead chose to implant blades in their arms which they can use for melee. The player may also hack certain objects in the environment and use it against their enemies to inflict damage or cause distraction.

The game features a variety of weapons, all of which are customizable. Different weapons have different kinds of ammo, including ricochet, wall-penetrating, and homing bullets. Depending on the players’ skills and cyber upgrades, they can quickly take cover, sprint, jump, and slide in order to facilitate smooth movement. According to the developers, the game can be completed without killing anyone, therefore, non-lethal options can also be used.
Unless CD Projekt Red makes a sudden decision to postpone the game, we can get our hands on Cyberpunk 2077 in about 7 months. Everything that have been announced seems pretty final for now, although we got to consider the fact that there may be further changes to the game, for good.
