Given that it’s 2019 and the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the highest grossing film franchise in the world, the name ‘Avengers’ should not be a very unfamiliar term. Still, just for the record, The Avengers is a fictional team of superheroes based on Marvel Comics. The team has appeared in several of Marvel’s publications which has eventually led to it’s appearance in movies too. Avengers: Endgame is almost on the verge of surpassing Avatar’s global box office record and once it is done, it will become “the highest grossing movie of all all time”. Wouldn’t it be even better if the highest grossing movie franchise gets it’s own video game too? Well, I’ve got some good news regarding that.
Famous video game publisher Square Enix announced that they are going to officially reveal their Avengers game at E3 2019.
In an official Twitter post, they said – “Tune into Square Enix Live E3 2019 for the worldwide reveal of Marvel’s Avengers. The event – complete with closed captions – begins June 10 at 6PM PT.”
The game would be titled Marvel’s Avengers, and the post was made via a Twitter account of the same name. As stated in the post, the reveal will take place during Square Enix E3 2019 Press Conference on June 10 at 6 PM Pacific Time or June 11 at 6:30 AM Indian Standard Time.
Marvel’s Avengers is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. The game was initially known as The Avengers Project. The game’s initial announcement was made in January 2017 with a 51 second video. The video featured Thor’s hammer, Iron Man’s hand, and Captain America’s shield lying in what seemed like a destroyed environment. A screaming voice can be heard at the beginning which is most probably the Hulk’s scream. In the video, a female voice narrated – “They say the time of heroes is over. That if you’re different, you’re dangerous. But I know the truth. The world will always need heroes. We just need to reassemble.”
Given the fact that the word “Reassemble” is given much focus here, both in the video as well as the recent Twitter post, we can assume that the game’s plot will probably revolve around the Avengers getting back together to save the world from an extinction level event. Or maybe it’ll be more or less like Avengers: Endgame where the Avengers are trying to ‘fix’ a calamity that has already taken place. The trailer does feature a destructive environment. Since no official news about the game’s plot has been revealed, I’d suggest everyone to take the above theory with a pinch of salt since these are based entirely on assumptions.
Scot Amos, Co-head of studio at Crystal Dynamics said last year, “We have assembled a team of industry veterans and leaders in order to create gaming experiences that surpass the expectations of our passionate community.” Scot is referring to the fact that the developing team consists of former employees from Naughty Dog and Visceral Games, which means that the game will offer us with a cinematic as well as an adventurous experience, given the fact that games published by Square Enix are usually of that nature.
According to a recent report by PC Gamer, Marvel’s Avengers will feature both single-player as well as co-operative gameplay. The game will allow players to customize our characters to suit our gameplay.
Here’s what the description in E3 Coliseum website says about Marvel’s Avengers listing –
“Embrace your powers and join key members of the development team at Crystal Dynamics and the creative team at Marvel Games as they talk exclusively about the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. This is the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure that combines cinematic storytelling with continuous single-player and co-operative gameplay. Moderated by Andrea Rene, assemble in teams up to four players, master extraordinary abilities, customize your heroes to fit your playstyle, and combine powers to defend an ever-expanding world under constant threat.”
As the statement suggests, there will be a four-player gameplay demo at Square Enix E3 Press Conference. The demo will also showcase character customization and shed light on their abilities.
The reveal is set to take place less than two weeks from now, and from what we know so far, the game will be an adventurous cinematic experience with action, character customization, and hopefully a strong plot.
